Your child is not smart enough to learn all the kindness and politeness things fastly. You need to give him time and support. But there are some small things which you need to do at starting-

  • Start with very small words like Sorry and Thank You. Tell him when to say these words.
  • Start it early. That means to start it as a preschool teaching so that he/she can think it’s the part of his life. Remember, the thing which we learn at an early age lasts forever. Don’t think as ‘ My child is very small now, he/she don’t need a manner class right now’.
  • Change Your Behaviour! It may be tougher tasks if you hear it but it really is not. Your child is gonna mirror you and it’s your responsibility how do you want him to be. Start behaving very positive and reply kindly with him. Maybe it’s not your nature, it’s ok! You just need to behave like this when your child is near you.
  • Don’t ever scold him/her to do so, manner can’t be taught strictly. If you just continue your teaching with a nice atmosphere and behavior, your kid will easily accept it.

Just think, a 3-year-old toddler say, ‘Please pass my toy”, Thank you for your gift!, Or Sorry! If I hurt you, What a great feeling it would be! Your child would be loved and invited everywhere and known for his manners.

Go Slightly Higher: Teach them the Positiveness and Feelings

The same thing which is discussed above should be continued slowly with some more kind words. Remember that consistency is important when you think your child has learned what you wanted to teach him in the first level, start making him positive without hurting or scolding them.

For example, if your child doesn’t share his toys with others, just ask him what if your friend had the toys and he denied to give it to you? Create a logic and let him think. Teach him the feels.

Positiveness is another thing to teach to your child. Don’t ever make him feel that he is a loser or he can’t do anything that he could do. Say some phrases to him which can give him positive energy and can be encouraging for children such as-

  • You are loved
  • I will do my best to keep you safe.
  • Sometimes I will say no.
  • I have faith in you.
  • I know you can handle it.
  • You are creative.
  • You are capable.
  • You are deserving.
  • You are strong.
  • You don’t have to like what someone is saying in order to treat them with respect.
  • I believe you.
  • When you make a mistake you are still beautiful.
  • How did you do that?
  • Your ideas are interesting.
  • You’ve made me think of things in a completely new way.
  • I’m excited to see what you do.
  • Thanks for helping me.
  • I’m listening.
  • I’m grateful you’re in my life.
  • You make me smile.
  • I love you.

These words may look simple to you but your child will learn a lot from this. Remember, your child knows nothing about himself or the world, it’s your responsibility to make him learn all the world’s teaching.

Reward Your Child for Kind Act: Don’t Go Overboard

It will be the happiest thing to feel that your child is doing the things what you always wanted him to do without forcing him. Whenever you child does something kind or shows his manners in a very good way, reward him! Because it will encourage him. But remember not to go overboard. Don’t reward any artificial or costly thing or don’t give them greed for doing something kind.

Instead of that spend quality time with them, play their favorite game with them etc.

Remember, Most the kids won’t be able to use kind words by the time. They might pronounce the words, but not understand the meaning behind them. So, try to teach it correct situations. The important thing which you have done is that you’ve started. The results may be late but won’t be a waste and you will see it definitely. So, start it now if you haven’t.
